Djawida Nadjongorle
Djawida Nadjongorle was a respected Kunwinjku artist. He first started painting in rock shelters near his homelands, Gunbalanya (Oenpelli) in Western Arnhem Land. He frequently depicted mimi (mimih) mythical spirit figures and painted stories from both his father\'s country at Djalbangurr and his mother\'s country at Kudjekbinj.
In 1985 Djawida was a Joint Winner of a major art prize- Painting in Traditional Media (Peter Stuyvesant Cultural Foundation Award) in the Second Telstra Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award, Museums and Art Galleries of the Northern Territory, Darwin.
