Hermannsburg

HermannsburgHermannsburg is an Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory of Australia, 131 km southwest of Alice Springs. It is known in the local Western Arrernte language as Ntaria.

Hermannsburg was the home of the famous artist Albert Namatjira (1902-1959), a skilled watercolour painter. Albert taught his children his masterly painting techniques and now the tradition continues with Albert Namitjira’s grandchildren painting in the Hermannsburg watercolour style.

Hermannsburg watercolour paintings capture the beauty, intense colours and grand scale of the Australian desert landscape.
